Cycling
From 1946 to 1974, Maggiora hosted the "Circuito del Balmone," a professional road cycling race that saw the participation of great champions such as Gino Bartali, Fausto Coppi, Pasquale Fornara, Vittorio Adorni, Felice Gimondi, and Eddy Merckx. The last edition was won by José Manuel Fuente.
Motocross
Maggiora became famous worldwide for its motocross track, the "Maggiora Park," which hosted important races such as the Motocross of Nations in 1970 and 1986. The track was closed for several years but was reopened in 2012 thanks to the interest of entrepreneurs from Biella. Today, the "Maggiora Park" hosts important MX1/MX2 world championship races, and in 2016 it hosted the Motocross of Nations.
Autocross and off-road
Even autocross and off-road have played an important role in Maggiora's sports history. In 1971, the first permanent autocross facility in Italy, the "Pragiarolo" racetrack, was opened, which in 1974 hosted the first Europa Cross trophy. In addition, a special off-road course was built on the hills adjacent to the racetrack, which hosted Italian offroad 4x4 velocity championship races until 2007. Today, the track has been refurbished and modernized to host rallycross races as well.
