The toponym "Macerata" comes from the Latin "maceria", meaning "demolished, reduced to rubble, destroyed". It is presumed that this is related to the event of the destruction of the city of Capua and its hamlets by the Vandals, in which the survivors who took on the task of rebuilding the city used the term "Villa Macerata" to indicate the place where they had lived and where they intended to return. Over time, the toponym contracted to "Macerata". The name of the municipality of Macerata Campania has been modified several times, in 1862 the denomination was "Macerata", then changed with "Regio Decreto n. 903 del 12 ottobre 1862" to "Macerata Marcianise", finally, with "Regio Decreto n. 2185 del 19 novembre 1925", the name of the municipality became the current one of "Macerata Campania".
