Lusciano
Visit to Lusciano, the Campanian municipality famous for its agricultural products
If you are looking for a peaceful place to spend a day in complete relaxation, I recommend visiting Lusciano, a municipality located in the province of Caserta, in Campania.
Physical geography
Lusciano is located in the agro aversano, near the Naples conurbation. It borders Aversa to the north and east, Trentola Ducenta to the north and west, Parete to the west, and Giugliano in Campania and Parete to the south.
The area is famous for the production of peaches and strawberries, wine grapes (asprinio), and forage.
Origin of the name
The original name of the village was Rusiano or Rosciano in the 5th century, Ruczano and Rizzano in the 8th and 10th centuries, and Luxanis in the 13th century. Finally, the current name Lusciano would derive from the toponym "Luxanis".
History
During the fascist period, Lusciano was incorporated into the municipality of Aversa, while Ducenta became a fraction of Trentola, becoming Trentola Ducenta, a municipality that still exists today.
In 1990, during the Pastoral Visit to Aversa, Lusciano was crossed by Pope John Paul II.
Monuments and places of interest
For lovers of religious architecture, I recommend visiting the parish church of Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo (Mother church), located in Piazza San Giovanni Paolo II.
The facade is divided into two overlapping architectural orders. The lower level consists of four pairs of Ionic columns, while the upper order is an attic that connects with the lower level via two volutes. The square body is surmounted by a triangular pediment.
The interior of the church is divided into three aisles with three semicircular apses. The central nave is in Romanesque style, while the side aisles and the pointed ribbed vaults date back to the 14th century. The frescoes in the church are the work of Luigi Torelli.
Typical products
Lusciano is known for the production of peaches and strawberries, wine grapes (asprinio), and forage. If you want to taste the typical products of the area, you can visit the local market held every Saturday morning.
Furthermore, I recommend trying the famous "ciarrielli", typical Lusciano sweets made with ricotta, eggs, flour and sugar.
Conclusion
In summary, Lusciano is a municipality where you can admire religious architecture, taste the typical products of the area, and spend a day in complete relaxation. If you are on vacation in Campania, do not miss the opportunity to visit this small town.
