Hello everyone! Today, I would like to talk to you about Lucca Sicula, a municipality of 1723 inhabitants located in the province of Agrigento, in Sicily. The geographical characteristics of the territory and its history make this city a very interesting place to visit.
Physical geography
The town is located on a hill at 513 meters above sea level and is 61 km from Agrigento and 100 km from Palermo. It overlooks the low valley of the Verdura river, at the southern foot of the Serra di Biondo.
History
The city was founded in 1620 by the noblewoman Francesca Perollo, wife of the prince of Campofranco, who wanted to call the city Lucca in honor of her hometown. Later, her husband obtained the title of marquis from Philip IV of Spain, becoming the first lord of the fiefdom of Lucca. Over the centuries, the city has passed through different hands, until becoming a municipality of the Kingdom of Italy in 1863.

Despite its small size, Lucca Sicula boasts a Renaissance checkerboard architecture, characterized by orthogonal axes. The most important monument is the mother church, built in 1600, which has a neo-classical style main altar.
