Castione

Castione: an ancient hamlet of Loria

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Castione, a hamlet in the municipality of Loria in the province of Treviso. The name of the locality derives from the Latin term "castrum" which, in the area, refers to the presence of defensive positions from the Roman era.

History

Despite the presence of Roman artifacts, it is only from the twelfth century that there are traces of the existence of Castione when it was mentioned among the villages owned by Romano d'Ezzelino. Later, the locality became part of the parish of Castello di Godego and the country church of Ramon (Loria) until 1641.

Economy

Castione has long been a mainly agricultural area, but in recent decades, many family-run businesses have developed in various sectors, from floriculture to metallurgy, from construction to catering, and much more. Subsequently, since 2000, important industrial businesses have settled in, giving rise to a real industrial zone.

Places of interest

Religious architecture

If you are fond of religious architecture, the church of San Mauro is definitely a place of interest to visit. Dating back to the 14th-18th century, it was built on ancient pre-existing structures dating back to 1564 and related to a chapel dedicated to the saint.

Villas

Another attraction of Castione is the Civran Manfrin Villa, built in the seventeenth century by the Venetian Civran family. It is an imposing building with three floors, a large barn and a beautiful park. To the east of the villa stands a tower with Guelph battlements. The villa was administrated by several municipalities for a long time, until it became a religious center for the Missionary Fathers. At present, it is privately owned and needs maintenance and restoration.

Conclusions

In summary, Castione is a small hamlet that presents interesting traces of the past, but at the same time has developed significantly in recent decades thanks to the presence of numerous businesses. If you are in the area, why not pay a visit and discover all its treasures for yourself?
