Welcome to La Guarda, the most populous hamlet of Loiano
Hello everyone! Today we'll talk about La Guarda, a hamlet of the municipality of Loiano, in the province of Bologna. With a population of about 419 inhabitants, including 59 foreigners, it is the most populous hamlet in the municipality. Not bad, right?
The history of La Guarda
La Guarda has ancient origins, dating back to Roman times, as evidenced by the Roman gentilic suffix in its name. The hamlet first appeared in a document from 1223, on the occasion of the foundation of the first church. Even Goethe, during his trip to Italy in 1786, passed through this locality. What an interesting history, don't you think?
Economy in La Guarda
As in many small hamlets, the economy of La Guarda is based on agriculture, crafts, and tourism. There aren't many commercial businesses, but the good news is that the employment rate of the active population is very high, at 95%. In short, it's a good place to work.
Inhabited centers
The hamlet of La Guarda is composed of several inhabited nuclei, including the oldest nucleus located on the Napoleonic road, a cluster of recent houses built in the 1960s as a holiday residential village, and some new buildings mainly intended for local rentals.
Communications in La Guarda
The territory of La Guarda is crossed by the Futa road, the same road that connects Bologna to Florence. The road was built by Napoleon Bonaparte and still passes through the oldest nucleus of the hamlet today. In addition, the hamlet is served by two bus lines that allow you to reach the city center of Bologna in about an hour. For those who prefer the train, the closest station is Pianoro, 10 km away, on the railway line that connects Prato to Bologna.
