Livo

Welcome to Livo

Hello everyone, welcome to Livo! Located in the autonomous province of Trento, our municipality has a population of approximately 783 inhabitants and is divided into four villages: Preghena, Varollo, Scanna and Livo, which is the seat of the municipal administration. Our territory is situated on the Mezalón plateau, between the Pescara and Barnes streams, in the northern part of the Val di Non. Today we will talk about the history of Livo and its points of interest.

The history of Livo

Livo has an ancient and fascinating history. The area where the municipality is situated was inhabited already in prehistoric times, as demonstrated by the two hill forts found in Livo and one in Varollo. In the 12th century, the Livo family became one of the most important in the Episcopal Principality of Trento, and a branch of the family became a vassal towards the end of the century. With few noteworthy events, Livo was marginally involved in the German Peasants' War. In the 19th century, the municipality was hit by a fire that caused considerable damage. In 1817, together with various other locations, it was included in a municipality headed by Preghena. In 1928, the municipality of Livo joined Bresimo, Cis and Preghena, but the first two became independent again in 1948. This led to the current municipal structure.
