History of Vaccarizza
Curious to know the history of Vaccarizza? The oldest written source on this small community dates back to 1370 and tells us about its origin as a rural court dedicated to cattle breeding. This is where the toponym "Vaccarizza" comes from. Over the years, the municipality has undergone several territorial changes, until it was aggregated to that of Linarolo in 1872.
The Christ of Vaccarizza
In a private chapel in the village, we find a very particular work of art, a bas-relief in sandstone depicting Christ on the cross. The work dates back to the thirteenth century and in addition to Christ, the Madonna, St. John the Baptist, the sun, and the moon are depicted. According to a local legend, the waters of the Po, in a flood, began to recede after touching the work.

If you're curious about how many inhabitants Vaccarizza has, Istat data from 2011 tells us that there were 155. Over the centuries, the number of inhabitants has varied considerably, reaching a peak in 1871 with over a thousand people. In 2017, instead, we returned to 164 inhabitants.
