Welcome to Limido Comasco
Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about Limido Comasco, a municipality of 3842 inhabitants located in the province of Como, in Lombardy.
Physical geography
The territory is mainly flat and extends to the limits of the hill. It is delimited to the west by the Bozzente creek and to the east by the Mascazza irrigation ditch. Here you can find the hamlet of Cascina Restelli, along with two other hamlets: Cascina Castigliona and Cascina Resta. In 1971, Limido Comasco had an area of 448 hectares.
The climate in this area is temperate, with cold winters and hot and muggy summers. The coldest month is January and the warmest is July. November is usually the rainiest month, while February is the driest. On average, it snows two or three times a year between December and February, but sometimes it can also snow in March and November. The lowest recorded temperature is -17.8 degrees, while the highest is 39.0 degrees.
Origins of the name
The name Limido probably derives from the Latin 'limes, -itis' which means limit or border line, which could refer to the border between the province of Varese and the plain. Another possibility could derive from the word 'limet', which means edge of grassy fields. In the Corographic-Universal Dictionary of Italy of 1854, the town was also indicated as Limito, similar to some local expressions where the final dental 'd' is exchanged with 't'. In the past it was also known as 'Limit' and 'Lìmid', references found in the Liber Notitiae Sanctorum Mediolani by Goffredo da Bussero in the 13th century.
History
Ancient Age
Although there are no documents that attest to the formation of the first settlement, Limido has very remote origins. In the 7th century AD, the entire Po Valley passed to Christianity and the ancient places of worship were replaced in many cases by Christian churches, such as the ancient church of San Abbondio. However, this dedication is not present in the diocese of Milan, to which Limido has always belonged. This suggests that the settlement of Limido could be even older than the farms on the eastern side of the Bozzente creek.
Middle Ages
Over the centuries, the territory of Limido Comasco was part of the Contado del Seprio and the Duchy of Milan.
Many centuries have passed since Limido Comasco was considered an important Christian reference area and since the community began to develop. However, the multiple influences of the different epochs of the community have shaped the city into what we see today.
Nowadays
Limido Comasco is a pleasant municipality to live in, with a mix of history and modernity. Among the tourist attractions of Limido is the church of Sant'Abbondio, whose construction dates back to the 10th century and is one of the oldest monuments in the municipality. It is still used today for religious functions. In addition, there are unique natural and scenic beauties in this small municipality that you can discover during a walk.
Life here is pleasant and balanced, although it is not a too big city. There are shops, bars and restaurants where you can shop, eat and drink in good company. Furthermore, many activities are often organized for young people and beyond during the summer months, including concerts, parties and festivals.
Conclusions
In summary, Limido Comasco, like many other small municipalities in Italy, has its own uniqueness and a pleasant atmosphere in which to live. The city has developed over the centuries, but its people have always found a way to adapt and transform themselves while remaining faithful to their origins. With natural and historical beauties, Limido Comasco is a municipality worth visiting. Come and say hello, you will be welcome!
