The Lezzeno territory has a long history that dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by the discovery of a tombstone from the 1st-2nd century. During the Ten Years' War, Lezzeno hosted part of the fortifications that constituted the defensive system of the Comacina Island, which sided with Milan. In the following centuries, Lezzeno grew and took on an important role in the Pieve d'Isola, serving as a vice-parish until it became the seat of an autonomous parish in 1780.

The coat of arms of Lezzeno was granted in 1994 and depicts the ruins of the tower located in the locality of Castello, above the fraction of Rozzo. The blue enamel evokes the lake, while the silver one represents the mountains that overlook the inhabited area.
