Levico Terme
Medieval and Modern History
After the decline of the Roman Empire, the area came under the control of the Lombards and later of the Church. In the Middle Ages, Levico was an important center for the processing of iron thanks to the presence of mines in the area. Later, the Commune came under the control of the Episcopal Principality of Trento and was fortified to protect itself from the raids of the Turks. In the Renaissance, the Commune experienced a period of cultural and economic development thanks to the presence of several noble families. In the 18th century, it was acquired by the Habsburgs and became part of Austrian Tyrol.
Contemporary History
After World War I, Levico became part of the Kingdom of Italy, but was damaged during the Second World War by the bombing of July 1944. The reconstruction of the city took place thanks to the collaboration between the population and the government.
