Lequio Berria

Welcome to Lequio Berria!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about a small Piemontese town called Lequio Berria, or simply Lech in the local language. With only 454 inhabitants, this small reality is located in the province of Cuneo, immersed in the beautiful region of Piedmont.

Society

Lequio Berria: the small cultural gem of the Langhe.

Demographic evolution

In the last hundred years, the resident population of the municipality has halved, going from over 900 inhabitants in 1921 to only 454 today. Despite this, the local community is proud of its history and ancient roots, which date back to Celtic culture. In fact, the toponym Lequio Berria seems to derive from the Celtic term LEAK, which means "milestone."

Culture

But despite historical events, Lequio Berria is a small cultural gem in the heart of the Langhe. At the headquarters of the Civil Protection, you can admire the "Permanent Collection of Soft Pastel", unique in the national territory. This collection was founded in 2001 thanks to Prof. Luigi Carbone and the painter Pierre Tchakhotine, and includes about 133 works of art.

Administration

Below is a table showing the administrations that have succeeded in this municipality:

Other administrative information

Until 2019, Lequio Berria was part of the Alta Langa and Langa delle Valli Bormida e Uzzone mountain community.
