Albaneto
Albaneto: the small hamlet at the foot of Mount Cambio
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Albaneto, one of the hamlets of Leonessa, a municipality in the province of Rieti. It is located at the foot of Mount Cambio and is a very quiet and picturesque location, ideal for those who want to get away from the hectic city life.
Civic administration
The administration of Albaneto is separate from that of the capital thanks to the Agrarian University or Sestiere. This hamlet enjoys autonomy for the separate administration of civil use assets. In addition, the Agrarian University of Albaneto is part of the Montepiano Reatino Mountain Community, which is responsible for promoting and developing the Rieti area.
History
The history of Albaneto is very interesting because it is closely linked to that of the Castle of Poggio Lupo, dating back to the 7th-8th centuries. In that period, the Mongalli family, originating from Poggio Lupo, together with other families from the plateau, founded the city of Leonessa. At the foot of the old abandoned castle of Poggio Lupo, with the other original families (Giuliani, Barberini, Stocchi, Santelli, Picarelli, Feliziani), the current village of Albaneto developed.
The village grew around the monumental church of ''Santa Maria Annunziata'', already mentioned in a papal Bull by Pope Lucius III in 1182. It is a very suggestive place full of history that still retains its ancient medieval atmosphere today. Albaneto also has three other churches, one dedicated to the patron saint San Nicola di Bari (7th-8th centuries), the second to the Madonna degli Angeli (18th century), and the other dedicated to the Crucifix (11th century).
Notes
If you decide to visit this beautiful hamlet, you cannot miss the spectacular view of Mount Cambio, which stands imposing over the valley. In addition, a few kilometers away, you will find Lake Piediluco, an ideal destination for those who want to relax and enjoy outdoor sports.
