Lentiai

Hello everyone! I present to you Lentiai, a small Italian town located in the province of Belluno, in Veneto.

History

For centuries, the center of the town was located in Cesana, a nearby locality, home to the ancient County of Cesana and the Castle later transformed into a residence and Palazzo Pretorio. Only in 1898, the Felice Cavallotti Mutual Aid Society was established in Lentiai, a gathering place for the entire valley.

Lentiai: History, Monuments and Symbols of a Venetian Municipality.

Symbols

The coat of arms and flag of Lentiai were granted by royal decree on May 12, 1942. The band of the coat of arms is taken from the coat of arms of the County of Cesana and is blue, while the flag is a white and blue divided cloth.

Monuments and places of interest

In Piazza Crivellaro stands the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, a sixteenth-century building that is part of the Diocese of Vittorio Veneto and represents a national monument. The interior of the church is characterized by the coffered ceiling made by the painter Cesare Vecellio.

Society and demographic changes

The Felice Cavallotti Mutual Aid Society, founded in 1898, is still active and is an important gathering place for the area. Other administrative information concerns the name of the town until 1867, which was Cesana, and its membership in the Val Belluna Mountain Union.

Administration

Until January 30, 2019, Lentiai was the capital of the namesake town with fractions such as Boschi, Canai, Cesana, Colderù, Marziai, Ronchena, Stabie, and Villapiana. Following the referendum on December 16, 2018, the town merged with neighboring Mel and Trichiana to form Borgo Valbelluna.

Conclusion

Lentiai is a town rich in history and charm, with a sixteenth-century church and the Felice Cavallotti Mutual Aid Society as gathering places. If you find yourself in the area, I recommend visiting to admire the beauty of this small Italian town.
