Castelletto di Leno: a village rich in history and rustic charm

Castelletto di Leno is a village located in the Lombardy region and is part of the municipality of Leno. The name of the village probably derives from a small castle built in the XV century, also known as the district of San Vittore thanks to the presence of a church dedicated to Pope Victor I. In cadastral maps, Castelletto di Leno was indicated as "Fenili del Castello", but the history of this village dates back to the Middle Ages.

Origins and history of Castelletto di Leno

The territory of Castelletto di Leno, covered by four large woods (Massago, Rotino, Squadretto, and Salvello), belonged to the Abbey of Leno until 1297 when it was ceded to the municipality of Leno. Over time, some parts of the territory ended up in the hands of noble families such as the Gambara, the Trussi who built the castle that gives its name to the village, and the Manerba.

In the nineteenth century, the barns of the castle and a fortified farmstead were the only settlements in Castelletto, but in the twentieth century the village further developed. Today, Castelletto di Leno preserves many elements of the past, such as the first elementary school, founded in 1910, the nursery schools, founded in 1940, and the Oratory, a very active youth center.
