Ledro

Welcome to Ledro: a tour to discover the mountain town

Hello everyone! Are you ready to discover the municipality of Ledro? We are in Trentino-Alto Adige and here we have a great natural beauty, Lake Ledro, which also overlooks Lake Garda. Ledro is a municipality of 5,268 inhabitants divided into many hamlets, with the municipal headquarters located in Pieve di Ledro.

Physical geography

The territory of Ledro is very vast, with many mountains and hills. The most important river is the Ponale, which flows in the lower valley and empties into Lake Garda with a waterfall. The Assat di Pur stream to the south is also an important tributary of the lake. Other rivers such as the Rì di Pieve and the Rio di Scandolera, along with the Massangla, complete the hydrographic system of the area.

Discover the mountain municipality of Ledro: nature, history, and traditions.

History

Ledro was born in 2008 from a popular referendum among the former municipalities of Pieve di Ledro, Bezzecca, Concei, Molina di Ledro, Tiarno di Sopra and Tiarno di Sotto, which were part of the Union of Municipalities of the Valle di Ledro. In 2009, the regional law of the Trentino-Alto Adige Region established the new municipality, which is part of the Alto Garda and Ledro community, replacing the Union of Municipalities of the Valle di Ledro. Molina di Ledro is one of the ancient settlements in the Alps, since 2011 in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Italy.

Monuments and places of interest

There are many churches and chapels to visit in Ledro, such as the Church of Santa Lucia in Pratis, the oldest church in the valley, or the Church of the Addolorata in Barcesino. In every hamlet, you will find a church to admire, such as the Church of Sant'Antonio in Biacesa or the Church of San Vigilio in Molina di Ledro.

Culture

The Valle di Ledro is rich in local traditions and festivals, all waiting to be discovered. Among the most important is the S. Michele Fair in September, an event that attracts people from all over Trentino. During the Locca festival, there is a summer race of wooden cars, while on the lake, there is a cardboard boat race. In winter, you can witness the "Merla" dive in January, a very particular tradition that has been carried on for many years.

Conclusion

Ledro is a municipality that offers many opportunities for those who want to discover Trentino and its unspoiled nature. Lake Ledro is one of the most beautiful places in the area, but there are also many other hamlets to visit and churches to admire. Come and visit us and discover the beauty of Ledro!
