Lavis

Welcome to Lavis: history, monuments, and places of interest

Hello everyone! Today we'll talk about Lavis, a small town of around 9,000 inhabitants located north of Trento, in Val d'Adige. The name "Lavis" comes from the Avisio river that runs through it and is called "La Vìs" in Trentino dialect.

History

Lavis has an interesting history, which still makes it a place of great attraction for tourists and visitors. One of the tangible signs of Lavis' past is the municipality's coat of arms, which represents the union and solidarity between the ancient communities of Lavis, Pressano, and Consorti.

Lavis: history, monuments and sacred art

Monuments and places of interest

Lavis' cultural heritage includes a considerable number of religious buildings, including the Church of Sant'Udalrico, which dates back to 1488. This Gothic-style building has been rebuilt over the centuries in a Renaissance and Baroque style. Today, the church, which has three naves, is decorated with frescoes, stuccoes, and artworks from different eras. Worth noting are the side altars dedicated to the Madonna and the Crucifix, the work of the young sculptor Cristoforo Benedetti.

The Church of Madonna di Loreto, on the other hand, is an example of a Baroque-style building, built in 1700 as a replica of the Holy House of Loreto. This church is located near a bridge over the Avisio river and has a stone altar that houses a statue of the Madonna.

Finally, the Chapel of San Giovanni Nepomuceno is an example of Baroque art that deserves a visit. This private chapel of the De Coredo Palace, now the town hall, was built-in 1755 by the famous artist Domenico de Costa di Badia.

We have come to the end of this short tour of Lavis, a place where history merges with religiosity and art.
