Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Turin, a city located in the Piedmont region, in northern Italy. With a population of over 840,000 inhabitants, Turin is the fourth largest Italian city by population. It is also the heart of a metropolitan area with approximately 1.7 million inhabitants.

Economy and Culture

Turin is a city with a significant economy based on industrial production, and is considered one of the main universities, artistic, tourist and cultural centers in Italy. Along with Milan and Genoa, Turin was part of the so-called industrial triangle during the years of the Italian economic miracle. The city is home to some of the most important "Made in Italy" brands in the world, such as vermouth, Gianduiotti chocolates, breadsticks, and espresso coffee. It is an important center for publishing, banking and insurance, information technology, cinema, gastronomy, space industry, industrial design, sports, fashion and artificial intelligence.

History

The history of Turin dates back more than 2,000 years. It was probably founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini and later transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus, with the name "Iulia Augusta Taurinorum". After the Ostrogothic rule, it was the capital of the Duchy of Turin, before passing nominally to the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563 it became part of the Duchy of Savoy and became the capital. In 1720 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia. In the 19th century it led to the Risorgimento and was the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.

The Savoy residence area is composed of twelve residences including castles, palaces, parks, and gardens built between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Physical Geography

Turin is located in the plain delimited by the rivers Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po. The Po River runs through the city from south to north, in front of the opening of some Alpine valleys: Val di Susa, which connects the city with nearby France through the Fréjus tunnels (Fréjus Rail Tunnel and Fréjus Road Tunnel), Valli di Lanzo, and Val Sangone.
