Borgo Faiti

Borgo Faiti: a small rural village full of history

Borgo Faiti is a small rural village located in the Agro Pontino region. Founded during the Fascist period, the urban center was built near the pre-existing locality of "Foro Appio". With around 2,500 inhabitants, Borgo Faiti is now a municipal fraction of the municipality of Latina, in the province of Latina in Lazio.

Physical Geography

The territory of Borgo Faiti is made up of an urban center, located at the intersection of the SS 7 Via Appia and the SS 156 dei Monti Lepini. The city is surrounded by a large agricultural area, which historically makes it relevant.

The borders of the territory are made up of the SS 7 Via Appia to the south, north, west, and east. To the northwest, the border is made up of the "migliara 41" road, while to the southeast it is made up of the "migliara 45" road. Finally, the "Sisto" drainage channel marks the southwest boundary. The Appia and Migliara 45 roads also constitute the administrative boundaries between Latina and Sezze and Pontinia.

The road network is composed of the "dei Monti Lepini" state road and six other parallel migliare roads, as well as the "Via Trasversale" that connects them all perpendicularly. Most of the migliare roads consist of two dead-end sections, except for the end migliare roads. Additional two bridges over the "Linea Pio" canal connect the urban center directly to the Appia.

Borgo Faiti: History and Toponymy of a Small Rural Village.

Toponymy

The toponymy of Borgo Faiti reflects the numerous noble families who have played an important role in the history of Lazio. For example, names such as Frangipane, Conti di Segni, and others can be found.

In the past, the streets had names linked to the history of Paul of Tarsus. One could find streets such as Via Tarso (Asia Minor), in honor of the saint's city of origin, or Via Saulo, which refers to the saint's Hebrew name who traveled through Borgo Faiti on his journey to Rome via the Appian Way, as cited in the Acts of the Apostles.

Between the 1980s and 1990s, the toponymy of Borgo Faiti was modified, as in many other villages in the area. The old street names were replaced by new names, which had little to do with the history of Borgo Faiti. However, in recent years, some citizens have fought for the restoration of the old toponymy.

In summary, Borgo Faiti is a small rural village full of history, located in the Agro Pontino region. Its territory consists of an urban center and the surrounding agricultural area, while its toponymy evokes names of noble families and Christian history.
