Welcome to Bolzano Airport

Hello everyone! Welcome to Bolzano Airport, also known as Bolzano-Dolomiti Airport or San Giacomo Airport. This airport is located in the southern area of Bolzano, Italy, and is easily accessible from the A22 highway exit and Bolzano Sud station. For departing passengers, there are 80 parking spaces in front of the terminal and an additional 200 in the new parking lot along the airport access road.

SkyAlps

Starting from June 17th, 2021, Bolzano Airport began operating SkyAlps, which connects the airport with Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Cagliari-Elmas Airport, Lamezia Terme Airport and Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport on weekends, as well as charter flights to summer tourist destinations in collaboration with tour operator AveoTours. In addition, it offers scheduled flights to Rome-Fiumicino Airport, Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, Düsseldorf Airport, Olbia and Ibiza, with a stopover in Parma Airport. Unfortunately, the route to Rome was removed at the end of August due to lack of bookings.

New routes for winter 2021/2022

In mid-September 2021, Sky Alps announced new routes for winter 2021/2022 to Brussels-National Airport, Copenhagen Airport, Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport and London-Gatwick Airport. This way, Bolzano Airport continues to expand and offer passengers a wide range of destinations.

History of the airport

Bolzano's civil airport was established on October 4th, 1926 thanks to Royal Decree number 1994. Originally, it was an Austro-Hungarian airfield and in 1919, it was home to the 31st Squadron. Nowadays, the airport has a runway that is 1432 meters long, with an overall asphalt strip length of 1746 meters, thanks to the latest extension carried out in 2021. However, the new management has announced plans to extend the airport territory by 400 meters and the runway by 70 meters towards the south, in order to accommodate larger planes and increase the number of passengers.

Conclusion

In the past, along with Foggia Airport and Siena-Ampugnano Airport, Bolzano Airport was called a "bonsai airport" due to its low passenger density and disproportionate costs. However, this definition has been avoided, and negotiations are underway to open a connection with Tortolì-Arbatax Airport, another airport to be added to the bonsai airport list. In Bolzano, we continue to work to offer passengers a safe and comfortable travel experience. Thank you for choosing to travel with us!
