Laconi

Welcome to Laconi, a natural and historical treasure of Sardinia!

If you're passionate about nature and history, you can't miss Laconi, a charming town located in the province of Oristano, in Sardinia. With its 1764 inhabitants, Laconi stands on a ridge of the Sarcidano plateau, at an altitude ranging from around 500 to 1200 meters, although the train station is at a slightly lower altitude.

Physical geography

The territory of Laconi stretches for almost 70 km² and is one of the most beautiful in Sardinia from a naturalistic and geological point of view. In fact, it includes three villages, each characterized by different peculiarities: "Crastu", located in the flat part of the territory, "S. Sofia" and "Su Lau", located on the Sarcidano plateau. The town of Laconi still preserves large portions of forest and has dozens of springs, which contribute to creating a cool and pleasant microclimate especially in summer.

Laconi: nature and history in enchanted Sardinia.

History

The history of Laconi dates back to the Neolithic era, around 6000-4500 BC, when the territory was inhabited by groups of hunters who settled in caves. In the subsequent period, the Bronze Age, when agriculture and breeding took hold, the first permanent settlements developed through villages of huts, as evidenced by the remains found at "Sarcidanu", "Monte Feurrèddu" and "Cirquìttus".

But it is the Nuragic era, present throughout Sardinia, that has left the most evident signs of human presence in this territory. In fact, the number of nuraghes present is quite impressive, as are the domus de janas found in "Is Mureddas", "Cirquittus", "Pranu 'e Arranas' and 'Pranu Corongiu". In addition, Laconi preserves the remains of a Carthaginian fortification from the 5th century BC and signs of the presence of the Roman Empire from 238 BC.

The Marquisate of Laconi

The history of Laconi is also linked to that of the Marquisate of Laconi, which originated in 1479 when the government passed to Enrico Enriquez. From 1668, the Aymerich family was at the head of this territory, leaving many traces in the history of Sardinia.

What to see in Laconi

If you visit Laconi, you can't miss some of the most important historical sites in the area, such as the Castle of Lacon-Serralta, built around the 13th century, and the church of San Giovanni Battista, dating back to the 17th century. But Laconi also offers extraordinary natural beauties, such as the Aymerich Park, an oasis of greenery and peace where you can walk surrounded by nature. The surrounding area is also very suitable for hiking or cycling, to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of unspoiled nature.

In addition, botanical enthusiasts will appreciate the permanent exhibition dedicated to medicinal and officinal plants at the company store, where exceptional local products such as honey, cheeses and homemade bread can be purchased.

Conclusions

In short, Laconi is truly a treasure of Sardinia, an authentic and unique place that combines the beauty of nature with the richness of the history and culture of the territory. If you're looking for a place to relax and immerse yourself in nature, without forgetting the beauty of the history of this wonderful territory, Laconi is definitely the perfect solution.
