Villamaggiore

Welcome to Villamaggiore

Hello everyone! Today we'll be talking about Villamaggiore, a small hamlet in the municipality of Lacchiarella, located east of the town center, towards Siziano, in Lombardy. The location is served by the Villamaggiore railway station of the Milan-Genoa Railway.

History of Villa Maggiore

Villa Maggiore has ancient origins, having been a small inhabited center in old Milan. It borders Basiglio and Pieve Emanuele to the north, Siziano and Campomorto to the east, Casirate Olona to the south, and Lacchiarella to the west. In the 1751 census, 366 residents were recorded in Villa Maggiore, which was owned by a single landowner.

During the Napoleonic age, in 1805, the population decreased to 280 units, rising to 320 in 1809. Despite this, in 1811 the town hall was abolished and incorporated into Gnignano, the current Siziano, but regained autonomy in 1816 following the establishment of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, although being moved to the province of Pavia.

Subsequently, the Austrians recognized the need to rationalize the administrative network of the area, so the town hall was definitively abolished in 1841, being annexed this time to Lacchiarella, in contrast to both the traditional religious bond with Siziano and its evident geographical proximity to the latter locality.
