Lip: history and panoramic beauty of Lazio

Origin of the name

According to legend, the name "Labro" derives from the first wild boar killed by the lord of the time during a hunting trip. Other sources instead hypothesize a Latin origin, from the term "lavabrum" (basin), due to the proximity to Lake Piediluco. The coat of arms of the municipality depicts a wild boar, a legendary symbol of the town.

History

Labro has ancient origins, between the 9th and 10th centuries. The town was controlled by the Nobili family, important feudal lords of Rieti, who clashed with the lords of Piediluco for control of Mount Caperno. Over the centuries, Labro suffered numerous occupations and pillages, until it came under the rule of the Papal State. After the Second World War, the village experienced a period of strong depopulation, saved only by the ambitious recovery project of the hamlet, carried out by the architect Ivan Van Mossevelde and the Nobili family.

The Nobili Vitelleschi Castle

One of the main symbols of Labro is the Nobili Vitelleschi Castle, built by the Nobili in the 16th century. The castle, situated in a strategic position on the hill of the town, has recently been restored and represents an important tourist attraction.

The orange flag

Labro has been awarded the orange flag, a symbol of quality and a healthy and well-kept environment. This recognition has been attributed to the town thanks to the beauty of the territory, the care of the environment, and the quality of the tourist offer.

The rebirth of Labro

In recent decades, Labro has been the subject of intense restoration work and enhancement of the historical and architectural heritage. Thanks to the initiative of the Nobili family and the architect Van Mossevelde, the hamlet has regained its ancient beauty and continues to grow and develop.

Conclusions

Labro is a place of great beauty and charm, a historical hamlet that represents a valuable tourist attraction. Its history, panoramic position, and architectural heritage make it a unique place, capable of offering visitors an experience of great suggestion and cultural value. Labro is a place to discover and love, a precious gem of the Italian territory.
