Origin of the name

The municipality of Labico has had several names throughout its history. Until 1872 it was known as Lugnano, a name derived from the Longus family who owned some land in the area. In 1872, the name was changed to Lugnano Labicano, and finally, in 1880, to Labico. This last name refers to the ancient Labicum, a city believed to be located in the territory of Labico.

The historical heritage of Labico

The city of Labico has an ancient history rich in events. It is believed that in the area around the city there was the ancient Bola, a Latin city that was conquered by the Equi and that was in conflict with Rome in the 5th century B.C. Labico also hosts several religious festivals such as the Feast of Maria SS. del Rovo, with a procession on the last Sunday of May, and the Feast of San Rocco, patron saint of Labico, with a procession on the Saturday before the last Sunday of August.
