La Valletta Brianza: a new municipality full of history and places of interest
Immersed in the green Brianza, in the heart of the province of Lecco, is the Municipality of La Valletta Brianza, with a population of about 4697 inhabitants. The town has an interesting history and saw the merger of the municipalities of Perego and Rovagnate in 2015, after a consultative referendum.
History
The municipality of La Valletta Brianza began in 2015, when the municipalities of Perego and Rovagnate joined forces to create a new reality. The majority of voters from the two municipalities decided for the creation of the new municipality and its new name, and the regional law of January 27, 2015, no. 1 officially confirmed the union.

Religious architecture
The municipality of La Valletta Brianza shines for the beauty of its churches. The Church of San Giorgio Martire in Rovagnate dates back to the fifteenth century and houses an altar designed by Carlo Amati. The Church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Perego, built between 1924 and 1927, is another architectural gem of the town. The Church of San Martino dates back to the eleventh century and represents an important historical testimony for the community. These are added to the Church of Galbusera from 1841, the Church of Sant'Ambrogio from 1939, and the Church of Santa Marcellina from the twentieth century, located inside Villa Sacro Cuore.
Civil architecture
Villa Sacro Cuore in Rovagnate dates back to the early eighteenth century and is now the municipal seat of La Valletta Brianza. Inside it, there is a magnificent fresco from the eighteenth century.
Society
Demographic evolution
The town has undergone various annexations throughout its history. In 1751, the population was 516 inhabitants, then rose to 1013 in 1805 with the addition of Crescenzaga, Albareda minore, and Sala. In 1853 the population reached 1171 inhabitants and, with the annexation of Bernaga and Cereda to Perego in 1880, reached about 1600 inhabitants. In 1927, with the annexation of Bagaggera, the population reached 2400 inhabitants. In 1928, La Valletta Brianza merged with Santa Maria Hoè and Santa Maria di Rovagnate, bringing the total population to 3200 inhabitants. In 2015, the new municipality of La Valletta Brianza was created.
Administration
The current mayor of La Valletta Brianza is Marco Panzeri, belonging to the Civic List - La Valletta 2020. Before him, Roberta Trabucchi was mayor from May 2015 to September 2020 as a representative of the Civic List - Noi La Valletta.
