History

Joppolo Giancaxio is the first inhabited center that rises in the high valley of Akragas. It was a fief with the title of Barony of the noble Gabriele Colonna di Cesarò, whose family governed it until 1812. In 1696, Gabriele Colonna di Cesarò built the first buildings of the village and gave it the name of Ioppolo in honor of his wife Rosalia Ioppolo and Ventimiglia Maniaci of the Dukes of Cesarò and Giancascio. In 1827 it was downgraded to a hamlet of the municipality of Aragona, but in 1892 it was incorporated into the municipality of Raffadali, of which it was a fraction until 1926.
