Pezzan
Discovering Pezzan, the hamlet of Istrana
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Pezzan, a hamlet of the Municipality of Istrana, in the province of Treviso. You probably don't know it, so I'll tell you some curiosities about this small town.
Physical geography
Pezzan is only 1.5 km from Istrana and borders with Sala, Padernello, Fossalunga, and Istrana itself. Furthermore, to the south of the town, there is the Treviso-Istrana Airport, one of the most important in Veneto.
History and origin of the name
The first documentation of Pezzan dates back to 996 and is contained in a deed of the Bishop of Treviso Rozone. The name seems to derive from the "fundus pettianus" of the settler Pettius, dating back to the 4th-5th century.
Monuments and places of interest
Parish church
The parish church of Pezzan is dedicated to St. John Bosco and is located in Via Montello. If you are passionate about architecture, you cannot miss it.
Airport
If you are fond of planes, the entrance of the military airport will leave you speechless. The 51st Wing is based here and in 1981 a very special event took place on its runways: a drag race between a Formula 1 driver, Gilles Villeneuve, and an F-104 Starfighter. Villeneuve's Ferrari 126 CK, without wings to allow for greater speed, won the race over one kilometer from a standstill against the plane.
Curiosities
If you want to find out how many inhabitants there are in Pezzan, I'll leave you the link to a website that reports the updated data.
Conclusions
So, that was my brief story about Pezzan. I recommend you to visit this hamlet of Istrana if you are in the area, maybe taking advantage of a visit to the airport. Let me know in the comments if you have already had the chance to discover this beautiful location or if you want to do it. See you next time!
