Welcome to the Province of Bergamo: Physical Geography
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about the province of Bergamo, a beautiful province located in Lombardy, northeast Italy. With a population of over one million inhabitants and its capital Bergamo, it is the third largest province in Italy by number of municipalities and the eighth by population. In this brief introduction, I will talk about the physical geography of the province.
Territory
The province of Bergamo extends over an area of almost 2750 km², and presents a very varied morphology, ranging from 82 meters above sea level to 3050 meters, the highest peak located on the border with the province of Sondrio in the Orobie Alps.
Areas
64% of the territory is mountainous, composed of the main Bergamo valleys: the Val Seriana, the Val Brembana, the Valle Imagna, the Valle di Scalve, the Val San Martino and the Val Cavallina. If you go south, you arrive at a hilly strip that includes the northern portion of the Bergamo Isola, the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo, and Valcalepio, an area of typical Bergamo wines. The hilly area extends for 70 km in width, from the Adda to Lake Iseo. Finally, the southern part of the province is an alluvial plain that occupies 24% of the territory.
Borders
The province borders the province of Sondrio to the north, the metropolitan city of Milan to the west, the province of Lecco and Monza and Brianza (for a small section) also to the west, the province of Cremona to the south and that of Brescia to the east.
Life in the Province of Bergamo

There are also some large companies based in the province, such as Brembo, Gruppo Papino and Elica. The province is also known for its wines, among which Valcalepio and Moscato di Scanzo stand out.
Culture
Bergamo has a long history, dating back to the Roman era. The historical center of the city, Città Alta, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2017. In the province, there are also numerous other sites of cultural interest, including castles, churches, and museums, such as the Museo di Scienze Naturali "Enrico Caffi" in Bergamo.

The province of Bergamo hosts a series of events throughout the year, such as the Bergamo Fair, which takes place twice a year. There are also themed festivals, such as the Feast of San Giovanni in Bergamo, the city's patron saint, and the Torrone Festival in Crema, a town in the province of Cremona.
