Cremignane
Welcome to Cremignane!

The history of Cremignane
The name of the locality is believed to originate from ''Grémegn'' or ''greben'', which means a very wet or sterile place. This suggests that the area was once forested and boggy, to the extent that it was considered a hunting and fishing reserve in the Middle Ages. In 790, a document mentions the name of a rebellious monk, Ardosino, from Cremignane. In the 11th century, the Cluniac monks established a priory here under the direct control of the papacy. The church is also known as S. Pietro della Lama, due to its proximity to the marshes and bogs.
In the 12th century, the church's assets passed to the Pieve di Iseo and then to the Coradelli family, who built a castle next to the church, of which no trace remains today. The current church was rebuilt in 1750 on an area of the Pieve di Iseo. Visitors can admire a splendid altarpiece dated 1729 and signed by Antonio Paglia that represents a "Madonna with Child and St. Peter". The church was subsequently adorned with stuccos and frescoes by Teosa and Santo Cattaneo, while it was enlarged in the early 20th century and the decoration was completed in 1945 by Pietro Munzio Compagnoni and son.
