Origins

Archaeological reconstructions suggest that Invorio was already inhabited in Roman times, around 200 AD.

The Middle Ages

Starting from the 10th century, Invorio was part of the Court of Massino Visconti, and was divided into Invorio Superiore and Inferiore. The territory was contested among several noble families: the counts of Pombia, the Da Castello, the Casanova and the Visconti. It was precisely here that Ottone Visconti, Archbishop of Milan, and Matteo I Visconti, the first lord of Milan of the Visconti dynasty, were born.

Between Spaniards and Austrians

From 1559 to 1713, Invorio experienced Spanish domination, followed by Austrian domination. It was only after many clashes that Carlo Emanuele III of Savoy managed to obtain control of the upper Novara area.
