Introzzo

Discover Introzzo, a small Lombard village nestled in nature

Origin of the name

The village of Introzzo, located in the province of Lecco, owes its name to the ancient tax that was collected on site, called "introgium". However, there is also another hypothesis that derives the name from the words "inter" "ozio", meaning "between leisure", as it would have been a perfect place to laze around and relax.

Introzzo: a Lombard village between history, architecture and nature.

History

In medieval times, Introzzo was part of the fief of ''Monte d'Introzzo'', belonging to the Dal Verme and later to the Sfondrati, and subject to the parish of Dervio from an ecclesiastical point of view. With the Statutes of Valsassina of 1388, the village joined the events of the valley. In 1516, during the struggles between the Sforza and the French, Introzzo suffered serious damage. Until 1992, it was part of the province of Como, while since 2000 it has begun to be part of the Union of the municipalities of Valvarrone, until merging into the municipality of Valvarrone on January 1, 2018.

Monuments and places of interest

The village of Introzzo boasts some places of interest from an architectural point of view, such as the church of Sant'Antonio Abate, dating back to the eighteenth century but still preserving fragments of frescoes from earlier times. The village also has some civil and military buildings, including the Roccoli refuge and the Lorla Roccoli trench complex.

Society

From a demographic point of view, Introzzo has 118 inhabitants, but its population has steadily grown over the centuries. In 1751, 110 people lived there, while in 1859 there were already 224.

Hamlets and locations

The territory of Introzzo includes several hamlets, such as Lavadèe, a village located at an altitude of 1350 meters that has a tennis court and an equipped lawn, Subiale, located at an altitude of 1100 meters and equipped with a restaurant, and Roccoli Lorla, at about 1500 meters of altitude and with a refuge and a lake. There are also two locations, Creste, located above Introzzo, and Trone, a small hamlet located below the village.

Mountains

Mount Legnone is one of the most important natural attractions in the territory of Introzzo, located at an altitude of about 2700 meters. The mountain is known for being a place of transhumance and for hosting numerous refuges.

If you love nature and tranquility, Introzzo is the perfect place to spend a day immersed in nature, between mountains and forests that will leave you breathless.
