Falciani

Falciani: A Fraction of Tuscany

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Falciani, a fraction of the municipality of Impruneta, in the metropolitan city of Florence, in Tuscany. This village is located just over 6 km southwest of the municipal capital and is located at the intersection of the Strada statale 2 Via Cassia with the via Chiantigiana per Ferrone. It is a very interesting place from a historical and tourist point of view.

Monuments and Places of Interest

The main reason why Falciani is so famous is the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, known as the "American Cemetery of Falciani". It is located on an area freely ceded by the Italian government to the United States of America for the burial of American soldiers who died during the liberation campaign of Italy in 1945. In this cemetery, 4,402 bodies are buried, while on a granite plaque, the 1,409 names with their respective ranks, units of belonging, and State of origin of the missing are inscribed.

Falciani: History, Tourism, and Spa in Tuscany.

Economy

The main economic activity of the area is related to hotel and restaurant tourism. Falciani is a place of great charm, accompanied by industry and craftsmanship. In particular, excavations and related work are connected to the production of the typical and precious Cotto imprunetino. However, the agricultural sector distinguishes this area: here Chianti Classico or Chianti Gallo oil and wine are produced.

Thermal Tourism

In this village, there are also accommodation facilities related to thermal tourism. In fact, Falciani hosts the so-called "Thermal Baths of Florence", which have four sources that spring up within a park set within a private clinic. Among the sources, the "Fonte Antica" (Cassia Water) is the one that springs up at about 15°C, while the "Fonte Celeste" and the "Pozzo N°1 and N°2" are those that spring up at about 12-13°C. These are cold sources of oligomineral waters, of the salty-bromo-iodic type that have therapeutic properties.

History of the Thermal Baths of Florence

The Thermal Baths of Florence have a very interesting history. Indeed, the use of these sources dates back to Roman times. At that time, the area of Falciani was crossed by the Cassia Road, the consular Roman road that connected ancient Rome to Florentia. The first two sources, the oldest, were rediscovered already in the first decades of the fourteenth century. Later, they were appreciated by popular tradition for their therapeutic properties, which were partly confirmed by the twentieth-century scientific investigations. The interest and economic exploitation of the thermal baths materialized in 1953 with the construction of a thermal facility (later renovated in 1990) and with the creation, in 1960, of the "Società per Azioni di Firenze Sorgenti Acqua Cassia".

Conclusions

In short, Falciani is a place of great charm and interest from a historical, tourist, and economic point of view. I hope I have intrigued you enough to plan a visit to this lovely Tuscan village. Thank you for reading my story, and have a good day, everyone!
