Moltedo
Discovering Moltedo
Hello everyone! Today, I will talk to you about a beautiful hamlet in the province of Imperia: Moltedo. Are you ready?
Physical geography
Moltedo is located at the head of the valley of the Rio Moltedo, which has the same name as the village. Its hilly position allows for a stunning panorama of the sea.
History
The village was divided into two districts, Moltedo Superiore and Moltedo Inferiore, which belonged to two different counties in the Middle Ages. Over time, the former belonged to Piedmont and the latter to the Republic of Genoa. But did you know that Moltedo was once an autonomous municipality? Later, in 1923, it participated in the creation of the municipality of Imperia.
Monuments and places of interest
If you are passionate about religious architecture, Moltedo will surely conquer you. You can visit the parish church of San Bernardo with a majestic façade separated from the bell tower by the sacristy. Inside, you can admire a painting attributed to Antoon van Dyck. But it does not end here, there are also the Oratory of the Immaculate Conception, the Oratory of Santa Caterina, the Oratory of Agostino d'Ippona and finally the Church of Andrew the Apostle, deconsecrated and reduced to ruins.
Economy
The economy of Moltedo is mainly linked to agriculture, in particular to the production of olive oil in the numerous olive groves surrounding the village.
Infrastructure and transports
Moltedo is connected to Imperia via a municipal road. While the nearest train station is Imperia on the Ventimiglia-Genoa line.
