Rocca Malatina
Welcome to Roccamalatina!
Hello friends! Today I'll talk about a very picturesque place in Italy: Roccamalatina. This geographical fraction is located in the municipality of Guiglia, just 15 km from Vignola, and it is famous for its incredible Miocene sandstone rocks, called the Sassi di Roccamalatina.
The history of Roccamalatina
The name of this place has a very ancient origin and goes back to the history of a noble family, the "Malatigni", who dominated the area for two and a half centuries, from the 12th to the 14th century. Their patriarch, Malatigna, arrived in the area around 1170. The history of this family is full of meanings and ambiguities, but it has left an indelible mark in the culture and toponymy of the area.
