Territory

The territory of the Province of Campobasso is a real treasure to be discovered. The Province of Campobasso borders Abruzzo, Puglia, and Campania, and overlooks the Adriatic Sea.

Hydrography

The Province of Campobasso is crossed by the rivers Biferno, Fortore, Trigno, Tammaro, Saccione, Sinarca, and Sassinora. These rivers, surrounded by the slopes of hills and mountains, give rise to a unique and incomparable scenery. The only two reservoirs present in the province are the Lake of Guardialfiera and the Lake of Occhito.

The Lake of Guardialfiera is undoubtedly one of the most suggestive elements of the Territory of the Province of Campobasso. Thanks to its dam, it was created by replacing a once swampy area. The charming State Road 647 of Fondo Valle del Biferno conserves two incredible viaducts, "Molise I" and "Molise II", which cross the lake for 8.5 kilometers, overcoming the dam.
