Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti
Welcome to Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti, an Italian municipality in the province of Cremona in Lombardy with a population of 1679 inhabitants.
Physical Geography
The town is located about 15 kilometers west of the city of Cremona. The municipal territory is wide and flat, with some depressions due to the disappearance of the historic Gerundo lake, formed by the floods of the Adda river.
History
Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti has a long agricultural history. During the Roman era, the road known as the "via Regina" passed through our city, connecting the river port of Cremona (now Cremona), to Chiavenna, passing through Milan. In 1810, the municipalities of Farfengo, Fengo, and Zanengo were added to Grumello, assuming the name of "Grumello con Farfengo". In 1841, Farfengo returned to be an autonomous municipality. In 1862, the name was changed to "Grumello con Farfengo Cremonese" to avoid confusion with other localities, and finally in 1915, becoming "Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti", which is still the name we use today.
Infrastructure and Transport
Between 1926 and 1956, two pairs of trains of the Cremona-Iseo railway line ran on weekdays, passing through the Farfengo (Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti) and Grumello Cremonese railway stops, travelling from Cremona Porta Milano to Soncino. Today, the municipality is served by buses managed by STAR Mobility S.p.A. that cross the entire municipality, arriving at Cremona, Soresina and Soncino.
Monuments and places of interest
