Grone

Greetings from Grone, Lombardy!

Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about the beautiful Municipality of Grone, in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy. With its 865 inhabitants and its privileged position on the left bank of the Cherio River, Grone is a small gem that deserves to be visited.

The beauty of the San Fermo Hills

If you are nature lovers, you cannot miss the San Fermo Hills, which are located just above Grone. These hills are full of green meadows and, thanks to recent development, have become a destination for hikers, sports enthusiasts, and fans of mountain biking, horse riding, paragliding, and hang gliding. You just have to choose the activity that suits you and enjoy the beauty of this enchanted place.

Grone, the jewel of Val Cavallina: history, nature and activities.

The history of Grone

Like many towns in Val Cavallina, Grone has a thousand-year history. In the Middle Ages, Grone reached its maximum splendor thanks to the powerful Suardi family, three of whose towers from that time can still be admired. In 1928, during excavations for the reconstruction of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, remains of a fortified structure were found that could have been a castle of which unfortunately there is no trace today. The church itself was rebuilt on the basis of a small 14th-century chapel and preserves paintings by Gian Paolo Cavagna and valuable carved wooden works. But not only the church of Grone is worth seeing: do not miss the opportunity to visit the "Acqua Sparsa" mill, which is the only one still in operation throughout the valley. Its operation is based on the combination of hydraulic and electrical power.

Society and administration

Grone is a very active municipality from a social point of view, with numerous activities for young and old alike. The demographic evolution of the municipality over the years has been quite constant and, in recent times, there has been a slight increase in the population. The administration is efficient and always attentive to the needs of the citizens.
