Boario in Gromo: a corner of paradise between mountains and history

Physical Geography

Territory

Boario is located on the left bank of the Serio river, at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. The fraction extends from the valley floor to the locality of Spiazzi, featuring a baroque church dedicated to St. Bartholomew (apostle). Boario can be reached through a paved path, although the asphalt road was built in the 1970s. In recent decades, the fraction has been urbanized thanks to the construction of second homes, becoming a tourist destination for mountain and winter sports enthusiasts. Boario is also part of the Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche.

History

The history of Boario follows the events of the capital, although during the period of the union of the municipalities of Gromo, Valgoglio, Gandellino, and Ardesio, the fraction seemed to want its autonomy. In 1612, the territory was divided from the capital, and then reunited with Gromo in 1621. Throughout the centuries, Boario has suffered the consequences of the landslides that have hit the Seriana valley, such as the Rovina del Goglio landslide on November 1, 1666.

Monuments and Places of Interest
