Rosaro
Welcome to Rosaro!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about a charming hamlet of the municipality of Grezzana, in the province of Verona. I'm talking about Rosaro, a village located in the mountains of the eastern Valpantena, at 588 meters above sea level.
A bit of history
The village of Rosaro is first mentioned in a document dated August 2, 832 and owes its name to the presence throughout its territory of numerous rose bushes. In the sixteenth century, the chapel of San Pietro was built by the Orti Manara counts, the owners of these lands. The village was hard hit by the Plague of 1630, but survived thanks to the legend of Donna Rosa, the only survivor who worked to make it rise again. The village was then named Rosaro in her honor. In the eighteenth century, it experienced a demographic increase and now has a modest urban area that develops around the central nucleus.
What to visit
The parish church of Rosaro is dedicated to St. Barnabas the Apostle and was built in 1589. Initially a private chapel of the Orti Manara counts, the church assumed its current appearance between 1909 and 1912, with a rectangular nave façade in neoclassical style. Inside, you can admire a fresco on the apse wall created by Aristide Bolla of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus among the saints" (1921). The parish of Rosaro extends over a territory that has 478 inhabitants.
Anthropogenic geography
Rosaro develops along the SP6 of the Lessini, which divides the village into two distinct zones: the western part, where the cemetery, the parish church, and where most of the population lives, and the eastern part, mainly formed by the locality of Busoni, which connects directly to Grezzana via a secondary road. Near the center of the village is the locality of Praole (municipality of Cerro Veronese). The village is composed of five main districts: Busoni, Lavelletti, Lavello, Macchielli, Miravalle.
That's all about the village of Rosaro. If you are in the area, I recommend visiting to enjoy the panoramic view of Valpantena and discover the history of the village of Donna Rosa. Have a good visit!
