Grezzago
Greetings and Introduction
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small town located in the northern area of the Milan metropolitan city, called Grezzago. With its 3045 inhabitants, Grezzago is a place that encloses an ancient history and interesting characteristics.
General Characteristics
The municipality's territory covers an area of 249 hectares and borders towns such as Busnago, Trezzo sull'Adda, Vaprio d'Adda, Pozzo d'Adda, and Trezzano Rosa. Despite its proximity to the Milan metropolitan area (about 27 km away), Grezzago's territory is characterized by the presence of only one settlement area, south of the Milan-Venice highway, while the rest is dedicated to agriculture.
History
Grezzago's origins date back to the High Middle Ages when the construction of rural chapels within the land funds developed. Among these, the chapel of San Martino belonged to the Pieve di Pontirolo Nuovo and represented the reference point for the religious life of the area. In the 1400s, the lord's residence was added to the chapel, the current Palazzo Zoja, which has fortification features typical of the castle villas of the time.
Attractions and Activities
Grezzago offers several interesting activities and attractions to discover. For example, the Church of San Martino, built on the ruins of the original chapel, with its Baroque-style facade. In addition, the municipality hosts a small but interesting ethnographic museum, which traces the life and traditions of the locals, and the Parco delle Groane, a protected natural area that extends over 3,500 hectares between the provinces of Milan and Monza and Brianza, perfect for trekking and nature lovers.
Economy and Culture
Regarding the economy, Grezzago is mainly agricultural but also hosts small commercial and craft activities. The municipality also promotes various cultural initiatives throughout the year, such as festivals and events related to local traditions.
Transportation
If you want to visit Grezzago, you can easily get there from the A4 Milan-Venice highway, from the Trezzo sull'Adda exit. Alternatively, there is a transport service by bus managed by NET that connects Grezzago to neighboring municipalities. For those traveling by train, the nearest station is Cassano d'Adda, about 11 km away.
Conclusions
I hope I have aroused your curiosity about this small gem in Lombardy. Grezzago may not be a big urban center, but it certainly offers everything you need to spend a pleasant day discovering a new reality. I highly recommend visiting the Church of San Martino and the Parco delle Groane, you won't regret it!
