Grandate

Welcome to Grandate!

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Grandate, a small municipality in the province of Como in Lombardy, which has about 2797 inhabitants. In this article, we will explore the history of Grandate and its symbols.

History

Although some findings from the Protohistoric age have been discovered in the territory of Grandate, there is not enough evidence to date the origin of the municipality to such a remote era. However, a section of road has been found that would attest to the fact that the area was already exploited in the Roman Age.

In 1335, the "comune de Grandate" was part of the parish of Zezio, on which it depended until the mid-18th century. In 1751, the Grandate territory had 336 inhabitants and also included the hamlets of "Cassina San Poso", "Isola" and "Cassina della Madonna". During the Cisalpine Republic, in 1797, it was included in the department of Lario, district of the lower Zezio parish. However, the following year, it was transported to the department of Olona, district XXVIII of Cantù, before returning in 1801 to the department of Lario. In 1808, Grandate was annexed to the municipality of Como.

In 1816, with the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom, the municipality was included in district II of Como. During the period of temporary annexation of the Lombard provinces to the Kingdom of Sardinia (1720-1861), the municipality of Grandate was included in the third district of Como, first circle of Como, Como province. From 1861 to the present day, the history of Grandate has followed national events.
