Hello everyone, today we are talking about Granarolo dell'Emilia

History

The municipality of Granarolo dell'Emilia has a very ancient history: the first traces of settlement date back to the Villanovan period in the 6th century BC. Over the centuries, the territory was also frequented by Etruscans, Celts, and Romans. The Roman centuriation, in particular, is still the most blatant testimony of the agricultural nature of the territory, which was often used as a real "granary" for the city of Bologna.

The municipality of Granarolo dell'Emilia was born just before the Unification of Italy, under the name of "comune di Viadagola". The first mayor of the municipality of Viadagola was Lodovico Gherardi, while the second was Francesco Nannetti. Since 1 November 1860, the municipality has been hosted in different private homes, until in 1871 a building was purchased, which became its official headquarters. In 1876, the municipality changed its name to "Granarolo dell'Emilia", a name that derives from the fact that this fraction was the most populous and the center of productive life.
