The History of Calcio a Gozzano
The history of football in Gozzano has its roots during World War I, thanks to the Jesuit community who organized football matches among the villagers and neighboring communities. In 1920, the team of Club Sportivo Juventus Gozzano was founded with the intention to participate in regular championships. The first affiliation with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) dates back to June 16, 1924, but it was only recently that the existence of the club was confirmed, thanks to in-depth historical studies.
Team Growth
After a period of inactivity caused by World War II, Club Sportivo Juventus began to flourish with the creation of Associazione Calcio Gozzano in 1937-1938. In 1945, thanks to the guidance of the presidents Ranzini and Gioira, the vice-president Marchese Alfredo d'Albertas and the collaborator Rino Zanni, the team reorganized and resumed playing football, but only on a regional level.
Over the following decades, the team mainly played in the regional categories of Piedmont, without ever reaching professionalism. However, in the last twenty years of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, the team managed to climb up to Serie D.
Promotion to Serie C
In the 2017-2018 season, in the A, B and C rounds of Serie D, the team won its group and thus qualified for promotion to Serie C, the third level of Italian football. This represented a great achievement for the team, marking a new chapter in its history.
The following season, AC Gozzano secured safety in Serie C, the best result of their history up to that point.
Current Situation
In the current 2021-2022 season, AC Gozzano plays in the A group of Serie D, after giving up their right to be in Serie C, which they had earned by winning the championship in the previous season. Despite this, the team continues to have a large following among the fans of the city of Gozzano and surrounding areas, who hope for a new return to Serie C.
