Welcome to the Province of Ferrara
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Province of Ferrara, a region located in the center of Emilia-Romagna. Here you will find a completely flat territory, with low altitudes that do not exceed a few tens of meters. Additionally, our land is very fertile and allows for cultivation of various crops, such as fruit and cereals.
Hydrography
As you cross our territory, you will find the main watercourse that runs through the province: the Po River. The Po marks the border with the province of Rovigo and divides into three branches in the Ferrara area: the Po di Volano, which runs through the city of Ferrara, the Po di Primaro, and the Po di Goro, the southernmost branch of the Po delta. Additionally, the Reno River marks the southern border of the province and flows south of Lido di Spina, in the province of Ravenna.
In addition to the main watercourses, the province is also crossed by the Idice and Sillaro streams, which flow into the valleys of Campotto and Valle Santa, and the artificial canal of Cavo Napoleonico, which connects the Po and the Reno. Finally, heading towards the Adriatic Sea, you will find numerous brackish water valleys of the Po delta, such as the Comacchio valley and the Fattibello valley, as well as the freshwater valleys of Campotto and Valle Santa.
Natural Reserves and Protected Areas
We are proud to be the Emilia-Romagna province with the largest extension of natural reserves and protected areas, which amount to approximately 40,000 hectares, or 15% of the total surface. Natural reserves are those areas where nature has been preserved and protected to the highest extent, while protected areas are those where nature coexists with sustainable human activities.
Here in the Province of Ferrara, you will find several natural reserves and protected areas to visit, including:
- the Regional Park of the Po Delta, where you can admire the beauty of our territory and the animal and plant species that inhabit it.
- the Oriented Natural Reserve of the Campotto Valleys, with its idyllic landscapes and great biodiversity.
- the Natural Reserve of Santa Valley, with vegetation characteristic of wetlands and the presence of numerous animal species.
