The history of Gorla Minore dates back to 1666, when the territory was granted by Charles II of Spain as a fiefdom to Francesco Maria Terzaghi and his heirs. In 1870, the municipalities of Gorla Maggiore and Prospiano were annexed to Gorla Minore. However, Gorla Maggiore was later re-established.
