Zocca

Zocca: the land of Vasco Rossi

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a very unique area in northern Italy: Zocca.

Zocca is an Italian municipality located in the province of Modena, in Emilia Romagna. Just the mention of it brings to mind the great musician and songwriter Vasco Rossi, who is originally from this area.

What to see in Zocca

If you happen to go to Zocca, you'll discover that it's actually possible to visit other areas with the same name. For example, there's Zocca (Ro), a hamlet of Riva del Po in the province of Ferrara, or Zocca (Gonzaga), a location (not a hamlet) of Gonzaga in the province of Mantua.

But let's focus on the Zocca in Modena: what is there to see?

First of all, you can't miss visiting Vasco Rossi's house, which is located right here. It's very easy to recognize because it's very colorful and the external walls have very unique writings and designs. You can't enter, of course, but from the outside, it's already very distinctive.

Another place I recommend visiting is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca, a church situated on a hill from which you can admire a breathtaking panorama of the Secchia valley.

Finally, if you're in Zocca between the end of August and the beginning of September, don't miss the Festival of Unity. It's a very famous event throughout the province, where concerts, performances, and good food are all on offer.

Explore Zocca: the land of Vasco Rossi amidst nature, culture, and traditional cuisine.

Cuisine and typical products of Zocca

But speaking of food, the cuisine of this area also deserves a special mention.

In particular, I recommend trying the tortellini, which are handmade and filled with pork and veal. They are truly delicious!

Another typical product of this area is cold cuts, in particular, coppa di testa and mortadella. Fun fact: the Mortadella di Zocca IGP is recognized as a typical product of the area.

Last but not least, you can't leave Zocca without trying the lambrusco. This red and sparkling wine is one of the specialties of the Emilian territory and is produced here, in particular, the Modena region.

Outdoor activities in Zocca

But if you are lovers of nature and the great outdoors, in Zocca, there are also many activities you can do to fully enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

For example, if you love walking, you can take a stroll in the Sassoguidano Oriented Nature Reserve. Here you will find trails immersed in greenery, which take you to discover breathtaking landscapes.

Alternatively, if you prefer mountain biking, in Zocca, there are many cycling routes, suitable for beginners and experts alike.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Zocca is an area in the province of Modena, unique and full of surprises. If you're looking for an alternative and not-too-touristy itinerary, I recommend stopping by here. Keep discovering and traveling!
