Palidano

Welcome to Villa Strozzi!

Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about Villa Strozzi, a beautiful building located in Palidano, a hamlet of the Municipality of Gonzaga, in the province of Mantua. The villa is a piece of history in the area, built between 1630 and 1700 by the Strozzi family, originally from Florence. The building has a style that also recalls the Tuscan Renaissance residences and those of the Emilian-Lombardic area. Today, the villa is the headquarters of the Pietro Antonio Strozzi Institute, which owes its name to the family member who started the work on the villa as we see it today.

The history of Villa Strozzi

The Strozzi family, belonging to the Florentine nobility, acquired the land on which the villa was built at the end of the 14th century. The building has two floors topped by a central turret, and is divided into two wings. In 1868, Senator Marquis Luigi Strozzi took care of enlarging and renovating the villa, which was then sold to a company that founded an agricultural school there in 1952. In 1974, the Provincial Administration of Mantua purchased the villa, leaving the college the other rural buildings. Today, the villa is a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture, restored and preserved over time.

The earthquake of 2012

Unfortunately, in 2012 Villa Strozzi was severely damaged by the earthquake that struck Emilia. The main building was declared uninhabitable, while the secondary bodies require interventions aimed at the safety of the structure. Fortunately, the recovery works of the architectural complex are underway, to give us back one of the treasures of Palidano.
