Goni

History

Hi everyone! Today I will talk to you about the Municipality of Goni, located in the province of South Sardinia. The history of this place is very interesting. It was inhabited since ancient times, in the 4th and 3rd millennium BC, as evidenced by the important archaeological areas present in the territory. During the Nuragic period, Goni was part of the giudicato of Cagliari and the curatoria of Siurgus. After the fall of the giudicato in 1258, Goni passed under the control of the Pisans and later, in 1324, of the Aragonese, who turned it into a fief. In 1348, the Aragonese king Peter IV of Aragon assigned Goni to Guglielmo de Torres. In 1552, the fief passed to Tiberio Sanna, one of the oldest Sardinian families linked to the Aragonese cause. In 1747, Goni was incorporated into the marquisate of San Tommaso and was then a fief of the Cervellon family and later the Nin family. In 1839, with the abolition of the feudal system, the town was redeemed.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the flag of the Municipality of Goni were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on December 20, 2001. The flag is a banner divided into white and green.
