Maglio
Maglio, the place of origins
Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about Maglio, a hamlet of Goito in the province of Mantua. Do you know where the name of this place comes from? Maglio comes from the Latin word ''Malleus'', which means hammer. The area was in fact an important center for metal production. In fact, the first evidence of the locality dates back to the distant 1227, where a plaque still exists today inside an ancient paper mill in the area.
Places of interest
Among the places of interest in Maglio, the courts belonging to the Gonzaga family cannot be missed, nobles who held much of the Mantuan territory under their own domain. Among the most important courts in the area we find:
Corte Brolazzo
Corte Brolazzo became the property of the Brolazzi family in the 1400s, one of the most important in Goito. The complex consists of a main courtyard which is accessed through a brick and stone gateway. The structure has been restored and is currently used as a private residence.
Corte Colarina
Corte Colarina dates back to the 15th century and is composed of various buildings arranged around a central courtyard, which is accessed through a stone gateway. The court was intended for agricultural and livestock activities.
Corte Fondo Trifoglio
Corte Fondo Trifoglio is a fortified court dating back to the 16th century. Built on three levels, it was equipped with a large portico with stone and brick columns, where artisan activities took place in the past. Over time, the court became the property of the Gonzaga architect Luca Fancelli.
Notes and bibliography
Here are some curiosities about Maglio! Remember that its origins date back to the 13th century and that its importance in metalworking has been maintained over time. If you are interested in history and archaeology, I recommend the book ''Itinerari goitesi: quattro percorsi fra storia, arte e natura'' by Marco Dallabella, which will guide you in discovering this small jewel of the Mantuan province.
