From 1811 to 1860, Giungano was part of the "Administrative division of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies". Afterwards, from 1860 to 1927, it was part of the Capaccio district.

The Church of S.Maria Assunta dates back to the fifteenth century, while the Church of Sant'Agnello Abate and the former Benedictine cemetery is from the twelfth century. Among the most important palaces, we mention the seventeenth century Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Aulisio, fifteenth century Palazzo Stromilli, seventeenth century Palazzo Picilli, and sixteenth century Palazzo Guglielmotti. There are also naturalistic paths like the "Sentiero della Sposa" (Bride's Path) and the "Sentiero Tre Monti" (Three Mountains Path).

The population of Giungano has undergone a discreet demographic evolution. As of December 31, 2007, 41 foreign citizens were residing there.

Giungano can be reached thanks to the Provincial Road 83, which connects Ogliastro Cilento to Trentinara, and the Provincial Road 137, which connects Mattinelle to Giungano.
